My Personal Truth in Using the Luminess Air Airbrush

 airbrush highlight

If someone had asked me a few weeks ago if I would have thought a consumer brand airbrush system , such as the Luminess Air, would have done the very same job and even more in some areas as my professional airbrush system, I would have said “No Way”

In this review of the Luminess Air Airbrush System, I’m going to reveal

  • The Truth, the whole Truth, and nothing but the Truth.

  • Is the Luminess Air System small enough to travel with?

  • Is continuous Air Flow the right choice?

  • How hard is it to learn airbrush makeup if you’ve never used it before?

These past couple weeks I have really enjoyed using the Luminess Air airbrush system and I have got to say is a pretty neat little device, it's much more simplified compared to my professional airbrush system, which in my case I am finding I much prefer. With most professional, non-retail systems, there is such a huge learning curve that at times you are more concerned about settings and placement of it and less certain about applying the makeup.

Knowing that I was going to write this review on the Luminess Air airbrush system I of course had to use the Luminess Air system and also take my daughter's experience of her using this into account.

When you think about it the people over at Luminess Air have really taken a complex unit and compressed it into this simple little quiet device. Let me break it down on how I've personally used this system.

The Process of using the Luminess Air System

In the morning I wake up take a shower then I sit down to start the makeup process. I pick out my bottle of foundation, shake a few times, put 4 to 5 drops into the little cup that sits on top of the stylus to start, turn on the compressor to start the air flow, aim the stylus (the part you hold) and slightly pull back on the trigger to start applying foundation.

Luminess air before after 1 Luminess air before after 2 Luminess air before after 3

Even before you pull back to release any of the liquid makeup you can get an idea of where you are pointing it on your face because of the ever slight whisper of air that continuously flows through the airbrush. That is one of the great things about the Luminess Air system is that it has a continuous flow of air through the stylus so you don’t need to guess where you’re pointing it before you pull back on the trigger.  Pulling back the trigger releases the makeup product into the air flow of the device which then gets applied to your face.

How Difficult is the Luminess Air to Use?

Just like with anything else new there is a slight learning curve, but nothing to be intimidated with. Personally I've been using one for many, many years and I still had to give time to get used to a new type of airbrush system and stylus. Not to mention, The Luminess Air was my daughter’s first try with Airbrush Makeup and she mastered it within a couple of tries.

Now when I say it takes time I mean a couple of try’s not weeks or months just a couple try’s and you might even want to try your first time on a simple piece of paper or sometimes I like to use a honeydew melon if you really want to get into it.

You will Always have Help

Also, you have about a hundred online Luminess Air videos to go through if you come across anything that you are struggling with. They have provided these great little video tutorials that touch on just about anything you might need help on, along with some tips and tricks. They even brought in the celebrity makeup artists Kathleen Kar for an example to walk you through some techniques. They have put out a video for everything and anything you ever might want to discover or learn about you’re airbrush system.

Is the Luminess Air System Small Enough to Take with Me?

The Luminess Air Airbrush System is very, very small and is easily the lightest airbrush system out there, which makes it super easy to travel with. On the top of the compressor (the little box that has the power button on it) there is a little hole so you can put your stylus into during filling or when you're not using it. Also, I have heard stories of other women losing their stylus holder because on other devices it doesn't go into the compressor; it either has a stylus holder that is built on the side of the compressor that detaches or a separate stand all by itself.

Is the Luminess Air Quiet?

Also the Luminess Air Airbrush System is the quietest system I have ever used. I would say that it’s compared to you putting your phone on vibrate in your purse, that is about how much you hear when using the Luminess Air

Just think, if you are one of the millions of women that get up early every morning before anyone else in your family, not wanting to make a lot of noise because your husband is still in the bed sleeping, you won’t have to worry about waking anyone, because the Luminess Air system is very quiet. You might think I'm over-exaggerating the importance of a quiet airbrush system and to some I might be, but if you have used some of the other airbrush systems out there you would understand my enthusiasm.

With or Without Multi-Speed Air Flow

One of the other concerns that I have seen by others that are looking to by the Luminess air system is that most of their air brush systems except their Pro system has one setting for the air speed. If that is what is holding you back, don't let it. Personally, having only one speed to worry about is a great thing and takes all the guess work out of it. In all the years of using airbrush makeup I have rarely ever used different air speeds with my older systems that have the optional air speed. You really don't need to. You kind of get accustomed to the one setting and never leave it. So having the one setting on most of the Luminess Air systems is a relief in my eyes.

Should you buy & use the Luminess Air Airbrush System?

It’s really simple: Are you happy with the results that you’re manual makeup has been giving? If you where I don’t think you would be here reading this right now.
The Luminess Air airbrush system is the natural evolution of makeup.  It’s the next natural step. Like from horse and buggy to automobiles (I know, I could have thought of a better analogy).

But don’t just take my word for it:

Hey Sandra, I just had to stop and say thanks for the review, it was nice and so true.
I have fair skin with a good bit of red/pink hyper-pigmentation on my cheeks (not rosacia, but similar)
I get so many compliments on my skin and makeup that will never go back to regular foundation again! Also, I recommend to anyone new to airbrush — YouTube– Watch every tutorial video you can find, and read any information that comes with your machine. It may seem time-consuming (not much), but airbrushing is a little different than liquid/powder makeup and it will help, I promise! Remember to look for changes as your applying and stop applying when your skin looks good. If you apply until it “looks like you’re wearing makeup,” you’re wearing way too much and it’ll probably look cakey.

I was looking online to see what everybody else thought about luminess air and I came across this site.
Recently I was watching the Home Shopping Network, hsn.com, and they were actually doing their live presentations for it, At the time it was new to HSN, so I told my brother I wanted it for Christmas.

Well I only recently started using it and as time goes by I’m getting better at it. I apply all my lotions first and then I use the primer they provide and then use the color that matches beat. It’s not so bad once you get used to it and pick out your perfect match, which I found using the number 2 shade, but I’m guessing that not everybody will find one shade thy works perfectly with their skin tone so that’s where mixing comes in.

Anyway the blush is nice, once you learn, but I hate the bronzer, only because it’s full of shimmer and I’d rather not have all that shimmer on my face. But it might look good as a shadow, even though I’m nowhere near being able to apply it as shadow, I’m not that good. But the foundTion is kinda shiny.

I guess at hsn you automatically get the satin and don’t get to choose the matte makeup, even though you can order the big bottles from there seperately in matte or satin, so I’ll definitely be purchasing the matte in color number 2. But until then I just use my white loose powder at the end over the airbrushed makeup so basically it looks matte anyway.

So yeah so far it’s been great. Anyway I just wanted to review it and suggest that if you want to try it go to their main site that you have posted here because you get to try it for 30 days and return it if you don’t like it, and they do flexpay so you don’t have to pay for it all at once, I think it’s four payments if you choose that option. And it’s cheaper, I think it’s like 170 or something I forgot. So yeah that’s all I wanted to say, kinda long but stll.

I have some acne, and large pores, and I am desperate to find something to make my skin look better.

Has anyone bought or used this system that could help me out?

THis is that airbrush foundation system that they have infomercials on now. I want regular people’s experiences and not someone that has been using airbrush system for years.

I am sorry to hear you don’t like to hear my experience with the luminess airbrush.
I would think other intelligent women would like to hear how someone that has used many different airbrush kits thinks about Luminess Air, a at home retail version.

I hope you change your mind in the near future and continue to join in the discussions.

  5. if you have luminess air make up do you like it and would it work on any skin type (dry, oily, combo: etc..) has it caused any problems or are you very happy with the product?

  6. Gillian on said:

only answer if you know the answer and if you have actually tried the product.
Luminess Air is liquid foundation that you spray on instead of using liquid or mineral foundation

  7. Callie on said:

Does anyone know where i can buy the foundation refills for the luminess air system other than on their site. Its a bit costly on the site. I Know i can buy some on e-bay but is there anywhere else i can buy more?

  8. I am very confused i want to know which is the better pick. People say Luminess Air is amazing yet some people i ask say it only last for one hour and is really oily and I heard Dinair make your skin very dry because its alcohol based. All i want is some suggestions. Plz help me

    • As far as answering your question, Yes Dinair’s Makeup with dry out your skin that is a well known fact. It is an alcohol based formulation.

You might have better chances with the Luminess Air makeup because it is a water based formulation and will not dry out your skin. Especially if you have dry skin to start out with.

    • OMG I just want to say, that everybody have his own opinion, you know, but still i agree with you!

  9. i have seen paid adverstising for this brand called “luminess air”. i was wondering if that stuff works, and if you had any suggestions for airbrush make up that i can buy that isn’t REALLY expensive.

  10. I have been using sheer cover forever and i love it, but the new make up luminess is an air brush make up that is also twice as expensive and i can’t afford it, so my question is, if i add water to the sheer cover makeup and put it into the luminess air thing will i get the same results?.
if anyone uses this makeup please let me know. thanks.

i saw the Commercial for the luminess air and i thought it looked really good but i was wondering have you ever used it and does it really have the results shown on the commercial? i know they have a temptu airbrush set at sephora for a lot more money and they used it on me when i got my makeup done there and i thought the results were pretty good. Is the luminess good for its price? tell me what you know about it

  12. My girlfriend wants me to get her the luminess air but i want to know if there is anything better i can get for her. she doesn’t have blemishes or anything but just says it will be easier and faster.

can any girls who have experience in this department give me some reviews and insight as to which system or technique is best?

    thanks

  13. I have been researching but, I am now confused. Luminess Air or Dinair or Temptu. I would like to know which is best and I would like phone numbers to luminess air so I can speak to them.

    Forget it I found them.

  14. I seem to be having a hard time finding makeup to cover my dark eye circles, they’re really bad and I’m watching the Luminess Air Makeup commercial right now and I was curious as to if anyone has tried it before and what they thought about it.

  15. I grew up a tom boy so of course I have little cuts and stuff that just never went away. Plus, Im African American so hyper-pigmentation is common amongst us. I wanted either something that will even my tone out or just cover it up well for the summer. Tried lots of things but nothing good yet. I saw Luminess Air on TV and thought it might work. Just wondering if anyone has used it for any other part of their body other than their face. Thanks

  16. I saw an add on tv that luminess air gives you a good coverage. But there are some bad feed back just like every other product out there today. Is Luminess the best one out there or is there any other suggestions?

  17. Lucille on said:

If you have it can you tell me what it’s like? Does it come off easily? Does it work? I’m thinking of getting it I would love to hear your opinions

  20. hi girls. so i used up the lightest color of my luminess air foundation, and i have 3 darker colors left. they are sooo expensive that it kills me to just throw them away or not to use them. so i was wondering if it’s possible to lighten the color some how.

  21. hey Sandra!! i love what you do its amazing and helps a lot!! :D now i am going to buy it so I can do awesome make up thx to u!!

  22. I have been wanting to try it for a while now but I wasn’t sure if it would work with my oily complexion, so if any one has used it, or is using it now, please tell me how you like and what your skin type is! Thanks!

So, i was watching television and an infomercial for Luminess Air came on.
It seems a little too good to be true. So it probably is, right?
My question is: Does Luminess Air REALLY work, or is it just a scam?

  24. If this article hasn’t been posted anywhere else, it should be. You have definitely learned much from the ideas you came up with to put into such a wonderful article.
